💡 Key points to remember
- TCF is not a diploma. It is a test that certifies language skills in relation to the levels defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- A TCF certificate attests to scores and levels on the 5 sections of the test in reference to the CEFR.
- France Éducation International (FEI), the organiser of the TCF, carries out the first of two corrections of the written expression tests automatically with the help of AI.
- Since 1 January 2026, the following levels are required:
- at least B2 in oral and written tests for naturalisation by decree or a student visa
- at least B1 in oral and written tests for a residence permit
- at least A2 in oral and written tests for a multi-year residence permit
